It is so important for us to get up and move our bodies.  One of the best ways we can do this is by getting outside and taking in some fresh air.  This is not only good for our heart and mind, but if the sun is out it is also good for our daily dose of Vitamin D, also known as the ‘sunshine vitamin.’  Just 10-15 minutes of sunlight a day can get us our daily intake of Vitamin D. Many of us are vitamin D deficient.

Vitamin D is added or ‘fortified’ in many dairy products, 100 percent juices and whole grain cereals can help us get the daily requirements. Oily fish, mushrooms, eggs and soymilk contain vitamin D.

Vitamin D works with the mineral calcium, which helps take care of our bones and teeth as we age. Vitamin D is also a fat-soluble vitamin, which means our bodies can store it. In the winter months there can be times when we do not see the sun for days. So on those days our body can use what it stored however, be sure on those sunny days, get out and get moving and enjoy the sunlight!
